About America the Beautiful
America the Beautiful has 30 units of five lessons each for a total of 150 daily lessons. The study is chronological: Unit 1 introduces students to the people and wildlife living in America before the arrival of Europeans and Unit 30 tells students about life in America today.
Each unit typically includes one lesson in each of the following categories:
- Our American Story – A lesson telling major events of a certain time period.
- God's Wonders – A lesson about an amazing creation God placed in America such as the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone.
- An American Landmark – A lesson about an important site in American history such as the Statue of Liberty, the city of Philadelphia, or the Smithsonian.
- An American Biography – A lesson about a person who lived during the period being studied.
- Daily Life – A lesson about how certain people lived and worked during a particular time period.
This curriculum has one hundred and fifty lessons and is designed to be completed in one year. Since a typical school year has about one hundred and eighty days, the student completes one lesson on most school days. However, some families may choose to spread the curriculum out over a longer period of time. Depending on how many activities you assign, most students will need forty-five minutes to an hour and a half to complete one lesson. More time will be needed on the day you do the weekly family activity.
