About Exploring the Library

Learning is an exciting pursuit. Exploring the Library is a study guide and workbook that encourages and inspires students to appreciate and enjoy learning. The first section presents and reinforces knowledge of God as the first priority of learning. It is the subject that comes first and continues through all areas of study. The fear of the Lord is the first lesson of learning, and it is the glasses through which we must view all other learning.

Part two of Exploring the Library introduces the library to your student. Knowing how to find information is a vital skill. Not all facts can or need to be memorized, but when a student knows how to learn something he or she wishes to know, his or her possibilities for knowledge are without limit. Libraries are a great idea: a collection of knowledge that can be shared by many at a low cost to each. To make full use of the library, we need to understand how to find what we wish to know.

Part three of Exploring the Library consists of (1) guidelines for exploring the knowledge the library has to offer and (2) pages to help your student interpret what he or she learns. Your child is guided through reading 25 books from the full range of library categories. Your student will be introduced to knowledge he or she might not gain otherwise. A student who is content to read about only horses or cars will benefit from expanding to gardening, the solar system, and poetry. He or she will likely be surprised at how many intriguing subjects exist!

Make this study enjoyable for your student by going at an easy pace and allowing information to be absorbed before moving on. Use it as a fun study during the school year or use it as a family summer reading program. This curriculum is designed to be completed one bite at a time, at your own student's pace. One or two activities per day of study is ideal. When all the suggestions and pages are completed, your child will have a good knowledge of library skills and be informed about a host of new subjects.

Ages 8-14. 62 pages, including consumable worksheets and Certificate of Completion.
