I Believe That I Saw Jesus
Words and Music by John Notgrass
Luke 24:13-35
The road down to Emmaus seemed awfully long that day.
Our sorrow seemed almost too much to bear.
A man we didn't recognize joined us on our way.
He asked what conversation we had shared.
Surprised that this man hadn't heard,
Cleopas told him what occurred,
How Jesus had been crucified last week.
Then our minds began to turn,
Our hearts inside began to burn,
As this unknown man began to speak.
Chorus
I believe that I saw Jesus
Walking with us down the road.
I believe that I saw Jesus
As he opened up the Word and showed
That he, Messiah, had to suffer
And be glorified.
I believe that I saw Jesus alive!
He started with Moses and the prophets of old,
Explaining to us what the Scriptures meant.
And though we tried to understand the message that he told,
Still we didn't fully comprehend.
When to Emmaus we had come,
He acted like he would go on,
But we asked him to stop and spend the night.
Then as the sun began to set,
He blessed and broke and gave us bread
And then he disappeared from our sight!
Chorus (x2)
